DJ Mix | House Slippers by Young Adults

DJ Mix | House Slippers

Mixed by Lazy Brow and Deep Body (Young Adults)

As longtime supporters of deep house, there's been a part of us here at Dialogue Inc that thought the good ol' days of quality and understated potency in the genre were largely behind us. Silly we know. But watching the scene bottom out here in Chicago around 2005, we turned our ears elsewhere: To the cosmic discoid sounds coming out of Northern Europe and to camps like Soul Clap, Crosstown Rebels and the like, who brought us some respite, but each has grown into a beast of its own with too much filler—and not the floor kind. Then along came LA's Young Adults label, and the artists it has drawn into it's fold. Acts like Dead Rose Music Company, Mark E, and LOL Boys were just a start. Now the fledgling imprint has put its stamp on deep with House Slippers, the debut DJ mix from the label and its helmsmen, Young Brow and Deepbody.

Starting slow and ending well before the night should end, it's a finely-crafted and selected mix right from our own heart. From the bubbling early moments of Ukrainian talent Sasha Anastasov's remix of the Socialites' "Only This Moment," which recalls a vintage Marques Wyatt, to the understated meditation "Maybe Snakes" by fellow Los Angeleno Suzanne Kraft, remixed here by the boys from Permanent Vacation, to Ben La Desh's chugging "Let Us Down," this mix has us grooving the way our first encounters with Henrik Schwarz and Dixon did.

House Slippers is a quick listen, running under an hour. Put it on over coffee in the a.m., on your way out on a Friday night, or on the way back in on a Saturday morning. Buy it on Young Adults' Band Camp—you get every track plus the dj mix—or stream it below. And if you only seek out one track for your upcoming sets, look to set closer "Just Wear It" by Montreal duo Grown Folk. The pair already impressed with their stellar EP for the Icee Hot label, and have outdone themselves here with a hypnotic blend of cascading vocals, whirling dervish synths, stiff analog bass, and a pinch of Chicago jack. This track basically amounts to pure bliss for us, and is a testament to the level of taste fueling House Slippers, and the Young Adult family as a whole.
