Preview: Apparat | DJ-KiCKS

It's ok. Our office already realizes that it's become a bit of a bull horn for !K7, but the company has brought a lot of great music to our ears over the last ten years, so we're ok with returning the favor in spades—especially when it serves the two-fold purpose of letting you, faithful readers, know about how !K7 intends to continue adding to its already illustrious track record.

One such way is through the renewed energy being put into the label's DJ-KiCKS series, the first of its kind that we followed religiously, back in the day when its subjects included Kruder & Dorfmeister, DJ Cam and Smith & Mighty; and more recently with James Holden and Chromeo. Now (with a full review on the way) the torch is passed to indie-techno luminary Apparat. And let's just say if we were into star ratings his contribution would get the maximum amount: 5 stars, two thumbs, a standing ovation, which ever unit of valuation suits your fancy best. Poised at the intersection of techno, dubstep, post-rock and generally leftfield dance music, its the most forward thinking mix to grace our ears yet this year.

To bolster our anticipation, the label released this interview clip—the first of a few—where Apparat (Sasha Ring) shares his insights about this mix and his career currently. Filmed at Teufelsberg, a unique post-World War II structure on the outskirts of Berlin, the clip offers some compelling sights, and even more compelling sounds from Ring himself.
